DEV BHOOMI, Uttarakhand is known for its nature and spirituality. It came into existence on 9th November 2000 after being separated from Uttar Pradesh. It came out as the 27th state of India. Earlier it was known as Uttaranchal and the name was changed to Uttarakhand on January 1st, 2007. The name Uttarakhand comes from a Sanskrit word UTTAR and KHAND where “UTTAR” means “NORTHERN” and “KHANDA” means “PART” or a “SECTION”. So, UTTARAKHAND means northern part or a northern land.
Uttarakhand shares an international border with Nepal and Tibet. It is bordered by Indian states Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
It has two capital GARSAIN and DEHRADUN. GARSAIN is known as SUMMER CAPITAL and DEHRADUN is known as WINTER CAPITAL. It is divided into two regions Garhwal and Kumaon.
